The Triniketan Foundation for Development, in collaboration with the All India Beedi Federation, has conducted comprehensive studies to examine the current status of the beedi industry and its role in providing employment to beedi workers. These studies focused on two key states – West Bengal and Madhya Pradesh—which are pivotal regions for the beedi industry in India.

Additionally, two micro-level studies were carried out in the village of Bagdah (West Bengal) and the city of Jabalpur(Madhya Pradesh). These focused investigations aim to provide a granular understanding of the socio economic conditions of beedi workers and the industry’s local impact.

The findings from these studies are expected to contribute significantly to policymaking, worker welfare initiatives, and discussions on the sustainable development of the beedi industry while addressing the challenges faced by its workforce.
